Migrates test files from `as` type assertions to @total-typescript/shoehorn

  • Automatically replaces `as Type` with `fromPartial()` in test files for better TypeScript compatibility.
  • @total-typescript/shoehorn and npm are used for the migration process.
  • Decides based on the presence of `as Type` assertions and partial data needs within test files.
  • Delivers migrated test files with updated syntax, ensuring type safety without manual intervention.

# Migrate to Shoehorn

## Why shoehorn?

`shoehorn` lets you pass partial data in tests while keeping TypeScript happy. It replaces `as` assertions with type-safe alternatives.

**Test code only.** Never use shoehorn in production code.

Problems with `as` in tests:

- Trained not to use it
- Must manually specify target type
- Double-as (`as unknown as Type`) for intentionally wrong data

## Install

```bash
npm i @total-typescript/shoehorn
```

## Migration patterns

### Large objects with few needed properties

Before:

```ts
type Request = {
  body: { id: string };
  headers: Record<string, string>;
  cookies: Record<string, string>;
  // ...20 more properties
};
it("gets user by id", () => {
  // Only care about body.id but must fake entire Request
  getUser({
    body: { id: "123" },
    headers: {},
    cookies: {},
    // ...fake all 20 properties
  });
});
```

After:

```ts
import { fromPartial } from "@total-typescript/shoehorn";
it("gets user by id", () => {
  getUser(
    fromPartial({
      body: { id: "123" },
    }),
  );
});
```

### `as Type` → `fromPartial()`

Before:

```ts
getUser({ body: { id: "123" } } as Request);
```

After:

```ts
import { fromPartial } from "@total-typescript/shoehorn";
getUser(fromPartial({ body: { id: "123" } }));
```

### `as unknown as Type` → `fromAny()`

Before:

```ts
getUser({ body: { id: 123 } } as unknown as Request); // wrong type on purpose
```

After:

```ts
import { fromAny } from "@total-typescript/shoehorn";
getUser(fromAny({ body: { id: 123 } }));
```

## When to use each

| Function        | Use case                                           |
| --------------- | -------------------------------------------------- |
| `fromPartial()` | Pass partial data that still type-checks           |
| `fromAny()` | Pass intentionally wrong data (keeps autocomplete) |
| `fromExact()` | Force full object (swap with fromPartial later) |

## Workflow

1. **Gather requirements** - ask user:
   - What test files have `as` assertions causing problems?
   - Are they dealing with large objects where only some properties matter?
   - Do they need to pass intentionally wrong data for error testing?

2. **Install and migrate**:
   - [ ] Install: `npm i @total-typescript/shoehorn`
   - [ ] Find test files with `as` assertions: `grep -r " as [A-Z]" --include="*.test.ts" --include="*.spec.ts"`
   - [ ] Replace `as Type` with `fromPartial()`
   - [ ] Replace `as unknown as Type` with `fromAny()`
   - [ ] Add imports from `@total-typescript/shoehorn`
   - [ ] Run type check to verify

SkillDescription
ai-elementsBuild AI chat interfaces using ai-elements components — conversations, messages, tool displays, prompt inputs, and more. Use when the user wants to build a chatbot, AI assistant UI, or any AI-powered chat interface.
better-iconsUse when working with icons in any project. Provides CLI for searching 200+ icon libraries (Iconify) and retrieving SVGs. Commands: `better-icons search <query>` to find icons, `better-icons get <id>` to get SVG. Also available as MCP server for AI agents.
browser-traceCapture a full DevTools-protocol trace of any browser automation — CDP firehose, screenshots, and DOM dumps — then bisect the stream into per-page searchable buckets. Use when the user wants to debug a failed run, audit network/console/DOM activity, attach a trace to an in-progress session, or feed structured per-page summaries back into an agent loop so its next iteration learns from the last one.
codebase-designShared vocabulary for designing deep modules. Use when the user wants to design or improve a module's interface, find deepening opportunities, decide where a seam goes, make code more testable or AI-navigable, or when another skill needs the deep-module vocabulary.
diagnosing-bugsDiagnosis loop for hard bugs and performance regressions. Use when the user says "diagnose"/"debug this", or reports something broken/throwing/failing/slow.

Enforces Python-driven true randomization for layout variance, strict AIDA page structure, wide editorial typography (bans 6-line wraps), gapless bento grids, strict GSAP ScrollTriggers (pinning, stacking, scrubbing), inline micro-images, and massive section spacing.
grillingGrill the user relentlessly about a plan, decision, or idea. Use when the user wants to stress-test their thinking, or uses any 'grill' trigger phrases.
imagegen-frontend-webElite frontend image-direction skill for generating premium, conversion-aware website design references. CRITICAL OUTPUT RULE — generate ONE separate horizontal image FOR EVERY section. A landing page with 8 sections produces 8 images. Never compress multiple sections into one image. Enforces composition variety (not always left-text / right-image), background-image freedom, varied CTAs, varied hero scales (giant / mid / mini minimalist), narrative concept spine, second-read moments, and a single consistent palette across all images. Optimized for landing pages, marketing sites, and product comps that developers or coding models can accurately recreate.
