# Release research (read-only)

Use this skill only inside the `release-research` subagent. You investigate. You do not ship.

## Goal

For one product, decide which user-facing features in the eligible release need documentation updates, with citations from the product repo at that tag.

## Steps

1. Call `get_eligible_release` for the product with defaults (`min_age_days=7`, `max_age_days=30`). Only releases in that window are in scope, including on a first run with empty memory. Stop if nothing is eligible. Prefer the newest candidate; do not walk older tags outside the window.
2. Read product memory (`/memories/agent/<product>-releases.md`) and skip features already tracked for that tag.
3. Call `get_release_diff` for the eligible tag (omit `base_tag` so it resolves the previous same-prefix release). Treat the commit list and changed files as the primary signal.
4. Call `get_release_notes` only as secondary context. Notes are leads, not ground truth.
5. For each candidate feature from the diff, call `get_product_source_file` at the head tag and confirm the API, flag, command, default, or behavior exists.
6. Call `check_docs_coverage` with the candidate symbols/flags and concrete docs page paths (for example `src/oss/deepagents/customization.mdx`). If every needle already appears and the existing wording is still correct, put the feature under `skipped` with reason "already documented".
7. Call `get_docs_file` on pages that might need updates when coverage is missing or wording looks wrong.
8. Return a single research report. Do not call Linear or PR tools (you do not have them).

## Research report format

Return JSON (as your final message text) with this shape:

```json
{
  "product": "deepagentsjs",
  "head_tag": "[email protected]",
  "base_tag": "[email protected]",
  "features": [
    {
      "name": "FilesystemMiddleware offloadBinaryContent",
      "needs_docs": true,
      "reason": "New public option; docs Full stack and Override sections omit it.",
      "docs_paths": ["src/oss/deepagents/customization.mdx"],
      "evidence": {
        "source_repo": "langchain-ai/deepagentsjs",
        "source_tag": "[email protected]",
        "items": [
          {
            "path": "libs/deepagents/src/middleware/filesystem.ts",
            "symbol": "offloadBinaryContent"
          }
        ]
      },
      "diff_files": [
        "libs/deepagents/src/middleware/filesystem.ts"
      ]
    }
  ],
  "skipped": [
    {
      "name": "internal test harness rename",
      "reason": "No user-facing API or docs impact."
    }
  ]
}
```

Set `needs_docs` to false (or put the item under `skipped`) when source shows no user-facing change, when `check_docs_coverage` shows the symbols are already present and correct, or when docs already cover it.

## Do not

- Open Linear issues or draft PRs
- Invent symbols that are not in `get_product_source_file` or the diff
- Recommend docs for pure refactors, dependency bumps, or internal-only changes
- Bundle unrelated capabilities into one feature entry

SkillDescription
add-docs-pageAdd, move, rename, or delete a page on the LangChain docs site. Covers choosing the source directory, writing frontmatter, placing the entry in src/docs.json navigation, adding redirects, and verifying with the lint and broken-link gates. Use when asked to add a new doc or page, move or rename a page, put something in the nav, or add a redirect.
deep-agentsBuild batteries-included agents with planning, context management, subagent delegation, and sandboxed execution. Use for complex, multi-step tasks that need built-in capabilities.
deepagentsAnalyze Deep Agents Python library releases against LangChain Deep Agents docs and prepare one-feature documentation updates.
deepagents-codeAnalyze Deep Agents Code releases against LangChain Deep Agents Code docs and prepare one-feature documentation updates.
deepagentsjsAnalyze Deep Agents TypeScript releases against LangChain Deep Agents docs and prepare one-feature documentation updates for JS-facing content.
docs-code-samplesUse this skill when migrating inline code samples from LangChain docs (MDX files) into external, testable code files that are extracted by this repo’s snippet scripts and used as Mintlify snippets. Applies when extracting code blocks from documentation, creating runnable code samples, using snippet delineators, or wiring snippet output into MDX includes.
docs-editEdit a docs page that already has an open pull request, or revise a page in place. Covers checking out the PR's own branch instead of cutting a new one, forked cross-repository PRs, reading the real diff, checking the edit against related pages, and the verification to run before handing off. Use when asked to edit, revise, fix, or review changes on a named PR, branch, or existing page.
docs-restructureRestructure documentation that spans several pages. Covers splitting a page that has grown too long, moving sections between pages, retiring a page, and fixing a topic documented in two places at once. Use when asked to streamline, simplify, consolidate, or reorganize docs, or when a page review keeps producing edits without the page getting shorter.
docs-reviewReview changed docs prose against Vale and the AGENTS.md style guide, reporting findings with the rule each one breaks. Use after authoring or editing a page and before committing, or to review a PR, a branch, or the current diff.
docs-team-voiceWrite or revise documentation prose so it reads like the rest of this site, in the docs team's shared voice. Covers sentence length, cross-link density, how to state defaults and conditions, naming exact identifiers, and what to cut in a revision pass. Use when drafting or rewriting a page, a section, a concept overview, a how-to, a callout, or landing copy.
